Starting a Business: a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

Saint Paul, Minnesota

Problem Statement:

A woman who had been working as an Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or “therapist” at a local mental health clinic was changing her employment type from that of a W-2 employee to a contracted 1099 employee. She did not know what this would mean for her or where to start!

Solution:

Jasmine worked with the therapist to understand the underlying intent of what she was trying to accomplish. Jasmine presented options, and ultimately the therapist decided on starting her own business by establishing herself as Limited Liability Company (LLC). Jasmine educated the therapist on the nuances of the different types of business structures and which documents and information she would need to file. The therapist was able to complete all of the filing paperwork, pay her fees, and ultimately left that day as a business owner!

This therapist is now practicing in the Twin Cities area as a contracted 1099 employee and as the owner of her own business!

I spend my career holding space for others through their hardest days, so it was a welcome respite to have space held for me through something so out of my comfort zone. Jasmine is pure gold, I feel so lucky to have been touched by her magical personality and extensive expertise!

Research into Health Insurance Contracting for Local Weight Loss Clinic

Minnesota

Problem Statement:

A Minnesota-based weight loss clinic was curious about the economics and logistics of contracting with health insurance companies for specific covered services that they already offered. They had looked into this option previously, but currently lacked the bandwidth to investigate this strategic aim thoroughly.

Solution:

Jasmine worked with the leadership team to understand the intent and the strategy behind the project and ultimately put together a strategic plan to investigate the fee schedules of different insurance companies and their associated contracting/credentialing policies. Jasmine leveraged her insurance connections and her knowledge of the industry and put together the requested data. It was presented to leadership and ultimately the company decided not to move forward with health insurance contracting at this time based on the economics.

This company continues to operate successfully without health insurance payouts as a revenue stream and feels they have thoroughly investigated the concept for their company.

Onboarding Program Development

Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism (iBAM),

University of Minnesota School of Medicine

Problem Statement:

iBAM did not have a cohesive onboarding program despite having many new employees and students joining throughout the year. New hires and students complained of feeling lost within the Institute and unprepared for expectations. Supervisors could train the “Science” but often didn’t know how to help new hires with basic things like obtaining building key card access.

Solution:

Jasmine created a workgroup comprised of Subject Matter Experts to draft the content and structure of the program. The program is housed on an internal website built with Google Sites and relies on SmartSheet automations to drive the process. The end result is a tailored onboarding program specific to each role (undergraduate student to Researcher) that is comprehensive, consistent, and smooth.

This new onboarding program now boasts a 95% approval rating, up from prior approval rating of 56%.

Jasmine spearheaded an incredible onboarding program for our institution! She led our team to develop materials that will be used for years to come. We worked together to build a website, gather resources, set milestones for staff of every level to meet, and instate standing check-in dates between managers and staff to ensure success.
It was great working with her! She is very thorough, has lots of experience in various professional areas, and has really great ideas.

Mouse Core Services Intake Process

Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism (iBAM)

University of Minnesota School of Medicine

Problem Statement:

The Mouse Core within iBAM did not have a formalized process for the approval of mouse-related experiments, or the communication of important updates. There was also no formalized workflow or prioritization between projects.

Solution:

Jasmine initiated a workgroup of Leaders within the Mouse Core to develop a product that would meet the needs of both the Mouse Core Team and the Researchers. Intake forms and experimental design templates were built in Smart Sheets to drive the workflows including approvals and status updates. This is all housed on a compliant google site. All applicable parties were trained on the process.

This is now in production to be able to be a fee for service in partnership with the Finance team.

Jasmine has been an invaluable asset for our organization. She has an innate talent for understanding, simplifying, and optimizing complex systems and workflows, then providing solutions that increased our productivity, employee satisfaction and provided long term solutions for us. I would personally recommend her services.

Site of Service Project

Bright Healthcare

Problem Statement:

Bright Healthcare did not have policies or processes in place to make sure that patients were getting procedures completed at the most medically appropriate location.

Solution:

In partnership with the Chief Medical Officer, the Legal team, and the Medical Cost Management and Market/Network teams, Jasmine led the project to establish Site of Service language within the definition of ‘Medical Necessity’. The SoS review was tied to the current prior authorization review process and all teams were trained on the new process.

The total estimated savings annually on this project alone was estimated to be $10.5M

Improving Admissions, Discharges, Transfers (ADT) Management

Bright Healthcare

Problem Statement:

Bright Healthcare was receiving ER admission data about patients and had an outdated process in place for what to do with that information. Bright nurses were being tasked with managing large data sets of patients going to the emergency room without the ability to intervene in the appropriate timeframe for the patient to benefit.

Solution:

Jasmine observed the team manage these data sets and proposed both a short and long term solution based on available resources. Initially, automations were created with PowerBI. Jasmine lobbied for investment of additional resources for a long term solution which led to building this workflow into a new Bright software program, Panorama.

This project saved Bright Healthcare 7 RN Manager FTEs.
